Children’s Choir Receives High Honor and National Exposure

(June 10, 2015) – The Fort Wayne Children’s Choir (FWCC) is pleased to announce the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir – Concert Choir has been selected to participate in the American Choral Director’s Association Regional Conference in Chicago, 2016.

The American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) is a nonprofit music-education organization whose central purpose is to promote excellence in choral music through performance, composition, publication, research, and teaching. In addition, ACDA strives through arts advocacy to elevate choral music’s position in American society.

A part of the conference is showcasing the best ensembles from the central United States. Acceptance to the conference is competitive and is only given to a select number of groups. Selection is decided by a blind peer-reviewed audition process. The Fort Wayne Children’s Choir is one of three youth choirs chosen to participate in the conference. The conference is to be held in Chicago, IL, February 23-27, 2016. This marks the first time the FWCC has been selected to perform at this conference. Furthermore, the FWCC is the second children’s choir in the state of Indiana to ever perform for ACDA.

The Concert Choir is the premier ensemble of the FWCC, representing the organization and the greater Fort Wayne community regionally, nationally, and abroad. The group is composed of 48 students from 5th-8th grade and can be heard singing with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic in the Holiday Pops, Heartland Sings!, and the Bach Collegium. Recently, the Concert Choir performed with the American Boychoir (Princeton, NJ) as part of Trinity English Lutheran Church’s concert series.

The mission of the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir is to provide a choral program exemplifying artistic and educational excellence for children from diverse backgrounds. The Fort Wayne Children’s Choir contributes to the community’s cultural environment by providing opportunities to experience the unique beauty of professionally trained young voices. With over 230 students annually, the FWCC is proud to represent 77 different schools in addition to home school groups.
