Celebrate World Oceans Day at the Zoo Thursday
(June 10, 2015) – Fort Wayne may be far from the beach, but our actions have a huge impact on the oceans. The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo invites guests to explore ocean conservation at a World Oceans Day event on Thursday, June 11 from 10:00 a.m. — 3:00 p.m.
World Oceans Day is celebrated internationally each June to highlight ocean health and the millions of animals that live in the seas.
Through engaging activities for all ages, zoo guests will discover their connections to the ocean. Activities include:
- Learn how plastics harm our oceans
- Waddle like a penguin and learn how to shop for sustainable seafood
- Trace the flow of water from Fort Wayne to the ocean
- Make an ocean pledge and take a shark “selfie”
- Create sea creatures to take home
World Oceans Day activities are free with zoo admission.

The zoo is northeast Indiana’s largest tourist attraction, hosting more than 500,000 guests annually. As a self-supporting facility, the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo receives no tax dollars for operations. The zoo’s operations are funded entirely by earned revenue and donations.
The zoo is open 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM daily; last admission 5:00 PM; exhibits, rides, & buildings close at 5:30 PM; grounds close at 6:00 PM. The zoo is open seven days a week through October 11, 2015. Admission is $14.00 for adults; $10.50 for seniors age 60+; and $9.00 for children ages 2-18. Babies age 1 and under and Zoo Society Members are admitted free. Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo website.
