Local Animal Care & Control Staff Assist With Wisconsin Cockfighting Raid

(June 4, 2015) – The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) Field Investigations & Response team deployed staff from Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control to St. Croix along with Polk County (in Wisconsin) law enforcement to assist with the removal of nearly 1,200 birds from a cockfighting ring.

Officer Erika Hedge and Animal Care Specialist Melissa North have volunteered their time to participate in the ASPCA’s emergency response team. All expenses were paid by the ASPCA and staff used their own available time for the deployment.

“We are proud to have such committed personnel that have dedicated their time and skills to assist in a national endeavor of this proportion.”

The ASPCA’s Field Investigations & Response team is made up of highly trained individuals from various animal related fields along with ASPCA staff members who are ready at a moment’s notice to alleviate suffering of animals and to remove them from crisis situations. These situations can be Animal Neglect or Cruelty related or due to a natural disaster.
