Game recap from the TinCaps:

TinCaps shut out Beloit, win series

BELOIT, Wisc. (June 6, 2015) – The TinCaps shut out the Beloit Snappers, 3-0, on Friday night at Pohlman Field to take the rubber match of their three-game series. Fort Wayne has now three consecutive series.

On National Donut Day, right-handed starter Michael Kelly pitched six scoreless innings followed by two scoreless from T.J. Weir and a shutout ninth by Bryan Verbitsky (S, 3).

The TinCaps scored all three of their runs against Beloit (23-32) starter Junior Mendez (L, 1-3) in the third inning. With one out, designated hitter Nick Torres and first baseman Trae Santos had back-to-back singles, while right fielder Franmil Reyes drew a walk to load the bases. Center fielder Michael Gettys grounded out to second base to plate Torres for the game’s first run. Then third baseman Chase Jensen delivered a two-out, two-run, opposite-field single to right field to make it 3-0.

Meanwhile, Kelly (W, 2-0) was perfect through four innings and faced the minimum through five. He limited the Snappers to two hits, no walks, and struck out four. It was the 22-year-old’s third start of the season. Kelly also threw five scoreless innings in his last outing.

Along the way Friday, Torres (2-for-4) extended his hitting streak to eight games, shortstop Ruddy Giron hit safely for the 15th time in 20 games, and left fielder Franchy Cordero had his third straight multi-hit game.
Fort Wayne (23-31) is 11-5 over its last 16 games. Over their last two games — both wins — TinCaps pitchers walked only one batter.

The team stays in Wisconsin Saturday to start a three-game series at 7:35 p.m. against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (16-39), who have the worst record in the Midwest League. All-Star left-hander Thomas Dorminy (5-3, 4.27) is in line to start for Fort Wayne, while Wisconsin counters with righty Devin Williams (0-3, 5.17).
