BRIEF SUMMARY OF INCIDENT and/or ARREST:

Detectives with the Gang and Violent Crimes Unit conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Lafayette St./McKinnie Ave. early Friday morning. They located a two month old infant in the backseat with her father, Michael Johnson. Johnson eventually confessed to the Detectives that he had left his four and five year old children at his apartment for nearly 45 minutes in order to go out and purchase cocaine. Detectives located the cocaine wrapped up in a piece of paper, hidden under the infant in her car seat.

Other Officers were dispatched to Johnson’s apartment to check on the well-being of the other children and to stand-by with them until other family members could arrive. It was found that Johnson had even left the door to the apartment unlocked. Officers found the children sleeping inside.

Detectives were able to locate the mother of the children, who was at work. She was brought back to the apartment and took custody of the children from the officers. A representative of the Department of Children’s Services was summoned to the scene and assisted in the investigation.
