Shooting Investigation

Details:
Fort Wayne police responded to the reported shooting located at 2129 Oakley Street at 9:43 a.m. this morning. Uniform officers arrived to find a male adult that was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim was transported to a local hospital where his condition was determined to critical yet stable.
Officers immediately fanned out in the area looking for the perpetrator. An officer observed the suspect hiding behind a home near the intersection of Poplar and Fox Streets, which is one block west of where the incident took place. A weapon was also recovered near the apprehension site.
The victim indicated to officers that he observed the suspect attempting to break into a van in the rear of his home and confronted the suspect when he was shot.
This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutors office.
