Fort Wayne Falters in Series Finale

(April 26, 2015) – The TinCaps dropped the series finale against the Cubs, 7-1, on Sunday afternoon at Parkview Field.

For the second straight day, South Bend (9-9) scored four runs in the second inning. The Cubs used three walks and two hits to take a 4-0 lead.

What proved to be the lone Fort Wayne (5-10) hit came in the bottom of the third. Second baseman Felipe Blanco launched a double off the wall in left field. It was his fourth extra-base hit of the young season.

The visitors added three more runs in the seventh. Right-hander T.J. Weir walked a pair and allowed a single to load the bases. Reliever Seth Lucio came out of the bullpen but yielded a two-RBI hit to Cael Brockmeyer. The next batter, Chesny Young, then plated a run on a fielder’s choice.

In the eighth, first baseman Trae Santos, catcher Miguel Del Castillo and Blanco all walked. Santos scored on a passed ball to put the home team on the board.

The TinCaps couldn’t rally in the ninth and fell, 7-1. Ryan Williams (W, 2-0) earned the win for South Bend, while lefty Taylor Cox (L, 0-2) took the loss.

Fort Wayne has an off day on Monday and is back in action on Tuesday against the Dayton Dragons. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. and the game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380, Box Score, and the TuneIn Radio app, and seen on Comcast Network 81.
