Statement from the Chancellor on inclusion at IPFW

(April 1, 2015) — Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) Chancellor Vicky L. Carwein issued the following statement today:

“Recent events in our state have left some members of our campus community feeling afraid, angry, excluded, or hurt. These feelings go beyond our students, staff, and faculty to include our extended family of friends and supporters as well as those who might want to be involved in some way with our university—potential students, recruiters, speakers/presenters, and donors and other supporters.

“Speaking personally and on behalf of IPFW, I want to reiterate our commitment to an inclusive and welcoming campus community for all people. Discrimination has no place in our society, and it has no place at IPFW. Our policy in this area is clear, and included in our policy are explicit references to sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.

“Our 50-year history will reveal that we have not always been perfect in our performance, but we have been consistent and resolute in our focus. We will continue promoting and living by these ideals in the future. This is our commitment.”
