News release from the Pillie for Clerk campaign:

Nelson Peters endorses Derek Pillie for City Clerk
Pillie brings a real desire to serve the citizens of Fort Wayne to Clerk’s office

(March 19, 2015) – Allen County Council Commissioner Nelson Peters made a statement supporting Derek Pillie’s campaign for Fort Wayne City Clerk today. In his endorsement, released via YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/pillieforclerk, Peters indicated he is supporting Pillie because he understands what is required of the office and is best equipped to serve Fort Wayne as the next City Clerk.

“(Pillie) is bright, articulate, I think he has a good head on his shoulders and he understands what needs to be done to move city government in a very positive manner,” said Peters. He joins City Councilman Tom Didier and former Republican mayoral candidate Paula Hughes who have already endorsed Pillie’s campaign for City Clerk.

“Nelson Peters has a breadth of experience in both local government and the private sector that is almost unmatched in our community,” said Pillie. “He has a track record of doing what needs to be done to best serve our community, from responsibly managing the budget to looking out after the most vulnerable in our community. I’m very grateful to have his support in this campaign.”

Below you’ll find the text of Peter’s endorsement video in its entirety:

Hi, I’m Nelson Peters, Allen County Commissioner, and I’m supporting Derek Pillie for Fort Wayne City Clerk for a number of reasons.

I think that Derek is bright, articulate, I think he has a good head on his shoulders and he understands what needs to be done to move city government in a very positive manner. City clerk sometimes gets lost in the haze of the bureaucracy but it really is an important job in terms of what and how it can affect citizens of Fort Wayne.

Derek brings an ability to ensure that both sides of an issue have been discussed and digested before making the most appropriate decision. It is important when you are working in city government, county government, state government to ensure you are hearing what your constituents have to say.

I’ve known Derek for a long time. He’s reached out to better understand, to see how he can better understand, an issue before he makes that decision. I think that Derek is equipped administratively to handle an office that is primarily an administrative office. He has great technical skills and he brings a real desire to serve the citizens of Fort Wayne to the City Clerk’s office.

So for those reasons I’m going to support Derek and would encourage those watching this little piece to do so as well! I think Derek is the perfect candidate!
