Fatal Vehicle Crash

Details:
On Friday, 03/13/2015, at approximately 9:33 PM, a City of Fort Wayne Police Officer was on routine patrol driving in the area of Auburn Park Drive and Kelley’s Landing. The officer heard a loud noise coming from a vehicle engine and observed a vehicle leave the roadway and drive through the grass of a nearby business. The vehicle continued driving through the grass westbound along Kelley’s Landing. As the vehicle continued westbound it struck a utility box, went airborne, and struck a ditch near the intersection of Cannons Way and Kelley’s Landing. The officer made contact with the driver of the vehicle and observed he was unconscious and unresponsive. The officer rendered medical aid to the driver and requested assistance from medic and fire units.
Medics arrived and pronounced the driver deceased at the scene. The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle and no other vehicles were involved in the crash. Preliminary reports indicate the driver possibly suffered some type of a medical condition prior to the crash. Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs were contributing factors in the crash. The entrance to the Sandy Pointe housing addition was closed to all traffic while Investigators processed the scene.
This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Coroner’s Office, and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. The Allen County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim along with the cause and manner of death. There are no additional details regarding this investigation at this time.
