USF Announcing New Dietetics Degree
New Coordinated Program in Dietetics (CPD) at the University of Saint Francis is the first to be offered in Northeast Indiana.(March 10, 2015) — The University of Saint Francis School of Liberal Arts and Sciences is offering a new four year degree in Dietetics starting in fall 2015. The Coordinated Program in Dietetics is the first of its kind in Northeast Indiana and it combines coursework with field work alongside practicing registered dietitians in the area.
USF is offering this program as part of its Nutrition program which emphasizes the science of food and its effects on health and the body. Students can begin the Bachelor of Science in Nutrition then apply for the Dietetics Program based on meeting program admission requirements. The CPD will focus on health promotion and can lead to various careers as clinical dietitians in health care facilities, as experts in food service industry, or as nutritionists in community programs. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a newly renovated instructional kitchen on the USF campus as part of a food science class.
Upon completion, students in the Coordinated Program in Dietetics will receive a degree accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). By partnering with local registered dietitians to provide practicum experiences for the students, USF has designed this program to lead to local and regional employment opportunities for graduates.
