Summer programs at Concordia Lutheran High School

(March 6, 2015) – Concordia Lutheran High School will host a number of summer camps and programs for all ages this year. For any questions or to register for camp, please contact Dean Doerffler, athletic director, at (260) 969-6868 or ddoerffler@clhscadets.com.

2015 Summer Sports Camps:

  • Boys Basketball Camp (grades 4-8)
    8:30 to 11:30 a.m. June 8-19 in the CLHS gym and auxiliary gym
    Learn the fundamentals of basketball while working on improvements as team players. Camp features CLHS coaches and current and former CLHS players.
    Cost: $150
  • Girls Basketball Camp
    • Cadet Division (grades 8-9)
      9 to 11:30 a.m. June 22-26 in the CLHS gym and auxiliary gym
      Cost: $70
    • Maroon Division (grades 5-7)
      11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 22-26 in the CLHS gym and auxiliary gym
      Cost: $65
      Emphasizes the fundamentals of basketball, including dribbling, rebounding, passing, footwork and defense (both individual and as a team).
  • Tennis Elementary Camp (grades 1-4)
    9 to 11 a.m. June 8-11 at the Zollner Tennis Courts
    An introduction to the fundamentals of tennis, including basic racket grip techniques, ground stroke swing paths, keeping score and motor skill development.
    Cost: $30
  • Tennis Middle School Camp (grades 5-8)
    4 to 5:30 p.m. June 8-11 at the Zollner Tennis Courts
    Reinforce tennis fundamentals with drill and match play. Learn various serving, volley and stroke techniques, basic point construction and game strategy.
    Cost: $40
  • Tennis High School Camp (grades 9-12)
    8:30 to 10:30 a.m. July 20-23 at the Zollner Tennis Courts
    Reinforce tennis fundamentals with drill and match play. Improve tennis skills through game strategy.
    Cost: $50
  • Softball Elementary Camp (grades K-8)
    9 a.m. to noon June 10-12; Pitching camp: 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Concordia Softball Diamond
    Work with CLHS coaches and team members on pitching, hitting, bunting, base running, throwing and fielding.
    Cost: $45 (regular camp) and $45 (pitching camp)
  • Baseball Fundamentals Camp
    • Grades 3-5: 9 to 11 a.m. June 22-24 at the Concordia Baseball Diamond
    • Grades 6-9: 1 to 3 p.m. June 22-24 at the Concordia Baseball Diamond
      Work with CLHS coaches and players to learn individual skills for hitting, pitching/catching, infield play, outfield play and base running. Campers will need their own glove and baseball cap, and will need to wear baseball pants, sweatpants or other athletic pants along with a shirt appropriate for playing baseball and an athletic supporter with cup. Helmets will be provided. A limited number of bats will be available, but you should bring your own.
      Cost: $50
  • Girls Soccer Elementary Camp (grades 3-8)
    8:30 to 11:30 a.m. June 15-19 at Kreager Park
    Work with the CLHS coach and staff to develop your passing and ball handling skills through one-on-one instruction, team games and lots of fun. Please bring a water bottle and shin guards.
    Cost: $50
  • Boys and Girls Soccer Elementary Camp (grades K-4)
    8:30 to 11:30 a.m. June 22-26 at Kreager Park
    Work with the CLHS coach and staff to develop your passing and ball handling skills through one-on-one instruction, team games and lots of fun. Please bring a water bottle and shin guards.
    Cost: $50

    8:30 to 11:30 a.m. July 20-24 at Kreager Park
    Work with the CLHS coach and staff to develop your passing and ball handling skills through one-on-one instruction, team games and lots of fun. Please bring a water bottle and shin guards.

  • Wrestling Camp (grades 4-9)
    3:30 to 5:30 p.m. June 22-26 in the CLHS Wrestling Room
    Learn the techniques that it takes to become competition at the high school level. The emphasis will be placed on basic fundamentals such as positioning, level changes and chain wrestling. Campers will need a T-shirt (tight-fitting if possible), gym shorts (at or above the knee), wrestling shoes and head gear.
    Cost: $50
  • Golf Camp (grades 3-8)
    8 to 10 a.m. July 13-17 at the Shoaff Park Golf Course
    Learn to play golf from the ground up. This camp will stress safety, fun, excellence and personal attention.
    Cost: $50
  • Football Elementary Camp (grades 4-8)
    10 a.m. to noon July 13-16 in Zollner Stadium
    By receiving football instruction in fundamentals at an early age, you will enhance your interest and performance in football. This camp gives you an excellent opportunity to show your abilities to the CLHS coaching staff and to help grow your talent to its fullest potential.
    Cost: $60
  • Girls Cheerleading Camp (grades 1-8)
    • Grades 1-4: 3 to 5 p.m. July 15-17 in the CLHS gym
    • Grades 5-8: 5 to 7 p.m. July 15-17 in the CLHS gym
      Learn cheers and jumps, practice stunting and work on your tumbling skills. Campers should wear T-shirts, shorts and tennis or cheer shoes.
      Cost: $60
  • Volleyball Elementary Camp
    • Grades K-5: 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. July 7-9 in the CLHS gym and auxiliary gym
    • Grades 6-8: 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. July 7-9 in the CLHS gym and auxiliary gym
      Work with CLHS coaching staff and players on the fundamentals of the game including serving, forearm, passing, setting, attacking, defense and blocking. We will also divide into teams by skill and age and work on team serve receiving, transitioning, defense, offense and teamwork.
      Cost: $55
  • Summer Conditioning Program (grades 9-12)
    1 to 3 p.m. (Monday through Thursday) June 8-25, July 6-23 in the CLHS weight room
    During this time, students will lift weights and participate in ballistics, plyometics and agility drills as well as cardio-respiratory conditioning.
    Cost: $60 for one student and $100 for two students

 

2015 Summer Band Camps:

  • Junior Cadets Band Camp (grades 5-9)
    9 a.m. to noon June 29-July 3 in the CLHS Band Room
    If you have at least one school year of experience with a band instrument, this camp is for you! Hone your skills in marching, small group lessons and concert band experience. All participants will have the opportunity to march in the Three Rivers Festival Parade.
    Cost: $60

 

2015 Summer Computer, Programming and Robotics Camps:

The cost of these camps are $40 for one camp; $75 for two camps; and $100 for three camps.

  • Java Programming with Disney 1 (grades 5 and up)
    10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 8-11 or June 29 to July 2
    CLHS Room 208
    Have fun exploring the world of computer programming in Java. This hands-on beginner’s camp is designed to teach first-time computer scientists the basics of programming using their favorite Disney characters. Everything used in the camp will be provided to the student for free. All you need is your creativity, basic keyboarding skills and a flash drive.
  • Visual Basic Programming with Disney 1 (grades 5 and up)
    8 to 10 a.m. June 8-11 or June 29 to July 2
    CLHS Room 208
    Have fun exploring the world of computer programming in Visual Basic. This hands-on beginner’s camp is designed to teach first-time computer scientists the basics of programming using their favorite Disney characters. Everything used in the camp will be provided to the student for free. All you need is your creativity, basic keyboarding skills and a flash drive.
  • Lego Mindstrom EV3 Robot Programming 1 (grades 4 and up)
    1 to 3 p.m. June 8-11 or June 29 to July 2
    CLHS Room 208
    Get ready to design, build, program and compete with working robots using Lego Mindstorms EV3 kit. Every student will learn the basics or robot construction, programming and movement. At the end of the camp, teams will compete in three fun challenges. The emphasis will be on teamwork, collaboration, creativity, and having fun.
  • Java Programming with Disney 2 (grades 5 and up)
    10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 15-18
    CLHS Room 208
    This camp extends beyond the Java 1 camp to introduce students to additional programming concepts using variables, data types, conditional statements and loops. Everything used in the camp will be provided to the student for free. All you need is your creativity, basic keyboarding skills and a flash drive.
  • Visual Basic Programming with Disney 2 (grades 5 and up)
    8 to 10 a.m. June 15-18
    CLHS Room 208
    This camp extends beyond the Visual Basics 1 camp to introduce students to additional programming concepts using variables, data types, conditional statements and loops. Everything used in the camp will be provided to the student for free. All you need is your creativity, basic keyboarding skills and a flash drive.
  • Lego Mindstrom EV3 Robot Programming 2 (grades 4 and up)
    1 to 3 p.m. June 15-18
    CLHS Room 208
    This camp extends beyond the Lego Mindstrom 1 camp and introduces students to additional robot programming concepts including display lights, sounds, touch sensors, color sensors and arm movement. The emphasis will be on teamwork, collaboration, creativity, and having fun.
  • iPad 101: Getting Started with an iPad (grades 5 and up)
    1 to 3 p.m. July 13-16
    CLHS Room 208
    New to the iPad? This camp will teach you how to use your iPad from first time setup to app management. We’ll explore all the options in iPad settings, downloading and removing apps, using the camera, care and tips and tricks. We will also explore sharing Apple ID’s, restoring from iCloud, creating email accounts, syncing with Gmail and using popular apps such as Pages, Keynote and Dropbox. If you do not have an iPad, one will be provided to use for this camp. This is a great resource for incoming or current Concordia students. All Concordia students receive a 50 percent camp discount and will be able to register their iPads.

 

2015 Summer Academic Classes:

Students from Allen County and the surrounding counties who are currently in grades 7 through 12 are eligible to earn high school credit for summer academic classes.

Classes will be offered in Algebra I, Algebra II, Biology I, Chemistry I, Computer Programming—Visual Basic (Dual Credit), Economics, English (9 through 12), Geometry I, Health, Humanities (Religion), Physical Education, Pre-Calculus, U. S. Government, U.S. History, and World History.

There are two sessions: Session 1 is June 8 through June 26 and Session 2 is July 6 through July 24. Registration deadline is June 4 for Session 1 and June 19 for Session 2. The classes are available onsite and/or online. Concordia Lutheran High School is accredited by AdvancED, Indiana Department of Education, and National Lutheran Schools.

Summer School at Concordia Lutheran High School:

Students from Allen County and the surrounding counties who are currently in grades 7 through 12 are eligible to earn high school credit for summer academic classes. Students in grades 10 through 12 are eligible to earn dual credit in the Computer Programming-Visual Basic class.

Cost is $285 per course, payable upon registration. Registration deadline is June 4 for Session 1 and June 19 for Session 2.
