FWCS Lottery to be Held Friday

News release from Fort Wayne Community Schools:

FWCS Lottery to be Held Friday

(February 25, 2015) – The Fort Wayne Community Schools lottery for all grade levels will be held Friday, Feb. 27, at the Grile Administrative Center, 1200 S. Clinton St. The lottery is for those who applied to a magnet school, high school Program of Study or a school other than a child’s geographically assigned school.

The elementary lottery begins at 9 a.m. in the Grile Boardroom with the middle and high school lottery taking place at 1 p.m. The lotteries are open to the public. Parents wanting to find out their children’s status can do so immediately after the lottery. Photo identification will be required.

FWCS allows parents to submit school assignment applications for their children if they want to attend a school other than the one to which they are assigned based on their home address. Applications were due Friday, Feb. 6. If there are more applications than spots available at any grade level and at any school, a lottery is held to determine placement.

This year, all families were asked to fill out assignment application forms because of the number of changes being made in transportation. This allowed FWCS to confirm parents’ school selections for the 2015-16 school year and assists in accurately planning bus routes and staffing for next school year. Applications confirming the school a child already attends will not be included in the lottery as the student will continue in their current school, as long as the home address remains the same.

All parents will receive a letter before spring break confirming the information submitted or the results of the lottery. Lottery results and school status information will also be available to parents with a photo ID between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on March 4, 5 and 6 at Grile. Information will not be given out over the phone.
