Students, faculty, and staff make their voices heard at Statehouse Day

(February 18, 2015) — Fifty-five students, faculty, and staff members from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) will head to Indianapolis Thursday, February 19, for the 17th annual Statehouse Day. Forty of this year’s participants are current IPFW students.

Participants will hear from Senate President Pro Tem David Long (R-Fort Wayne) in the Majority Caucus room, have lunch with northeast Indiana legislators, and see the presentation of a 50th Celebration Resolution by Senator Susan Glick (R-LaGrange) in the Senate Chamber at 1:30 p.m. The resolution will be accepted by Chancellor Vicky Carwein.

The lunch presentation will be emceed by Vince Buchanan, executive director of the Regional Chamber of Northeast Indiana. Four IPFW students currently interning at the Statehouse will speak about their experiences during lunch.

“This trip gives our students a first-hand look at the legislative session and a chance to see our legislative delegation in action,” said Carwein. “Giving our students the opportunity for up-close interaction with Indiana legislators is a benefit for both the students and the policy makers.”

The group will leave campus at 8 a.m. and return at 5 p.m.
