Lake Avenue Duplex Fire
(February 18, 2015) – Communications dispatched the Fort Wayne Fire Department to the 900 block of Lake Ave. after multiple reports of a structure fire. Crews arrived on scene of the two story home that houses two 2-story apartments (938 Lake Ave. and 940 Lake Ave.) and found heavy fire and smoke coming from both the first and second floor with extension into the attic/roof area. Crews worked to extinguish the fire and keep it from spreading to neighboring structures in close proximity.
Witnesses reported one person self-evacuated from an apartment prior to FWFD’s arrival and sought treatment at a local hospital for minor injuries. No one else was home at the time of the blaze and no other injuries were reported. Crews took 31 minutes to bring the fire under control. At the time of this report, crews remain on scene overhauling and will continue to be rotated.
FWPD, TRAA, Neighborhood Code, Nipsco, AEP and Rehab Unit 70 from St. Joseph Township Fire Department assisted on scene.
