Press release from Parkview Health:

Parkview and WomenHeart partner to form local support Network

(February 3, 2015) – Women coping with a diagnosis of heart disease now have greater access to local peer support. The WomenHeart Support Network of Parkview Heart Institute will host its first meeting Thursday, Feb. 12. On this date, and continuing on the second Thursday of each month, the group will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Parkview Center for Healthy Living on the Parkview Regional Medical Center campus. The Support Network is open to women heart patients who wish to empower themselves and others through support, education and advocacy.

The WomenHeart Support Network of Parkview Heart Institute will be facilitated by two local women: Susan Smallwood and Cindy Morphett, both of Fort Wayne. Morphett and Smallwood carry the title WomenHeart Champions, after completing the prestigious annual WomenHeart Science & Leadership Symposium at Mayo Clinic last fall. Both ladies will share their own stories at the group’s first meeting.

Support Network goals are to:

  • Encourage women living with or at risk of heart disease
  • Connect women with others who understand their experiences
  • Share health information
  • Connect women with community resources

The WomenHeart Support Network of Parkview Heart Institute developed from a partnership between Parkview and WomenHeart, the national coalition for women living with or at risk of developing heart disease. Parkview joined WomenHeart: The National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease in September 2014.
