Michelle Merritt Announces Candidacy for City Council 2nd District

(January 27, 2015) – Michelle Merritt announced today she will file her candidacy for 2nd District City Council Wednesday January 28, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Merritt, a long time Fort Wayne resident, is a passionate member of our community and welcomes the opportunity to serve her fellow District 2 neighbors.

“District 2 is such a richly diverse district that my family and I are proud to be a part of,” Merritt stated. “When we decided to purchase a home in Fort Wayne, we expressly concentrated on looking in the 2nd District because we wanted to be part of a community where we know our neighbors and could make a difference in others’ lives.”

Merritt is the owner of Merrfeld Resumes and Coaching and the former Vice President of the Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce. She will utilize her experience and strengths to promote business growth in the 2nd District, enhance responsiveness in local government and support responsible Downtown growth. Michelle has a proven track record in Economic Development including a partnership with the 122nd Fighter Wing in 2010 to keep this vital base here in Fort Wayne.

“We’ve seen great things happen under Mayor Henry’s leadership. I look forward to being a part of the support the Mayor and our citizens need to do even more amazing things in Fort Wayne,” she said. As a working wife and mom, Michelle understands the needs of families in Fort Wayne and will advocate for them and for all citizens. “Diversity is a key part of progress in our great city. Our City Council should reflect that diversity also.”

Merritt is originally from Indianapolis, IN and grew up in Decatur, IL. She is a graduate of the Loyola University’s Women’s Leadership Program. After serving as Recruitment and Community Strategist at Three Rivers Federal Credit Union, she joined the Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce as Vice President. She formed Merrfeld Resumes and Coaching in 2010.

Merritt has served on numerous boards and committees including the Fort Wayne Urban League, the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir, and the Fort Wayne Women’s Bureau. She is a tireless advocate both for her neighborhood and for the business community.

Michelle resides in the Lakeside Park neighborhood with her husband Jason and son Derek who will join her on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. as she files her candidacy to represent their home district. “Fort Wayne has provided tremendous opportunity for my family and I to build an exceptional life together. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to give back and represent District 2 and the entire City of Fort Wayne as it progresses forward to great new things,” she said.
