Extreme cold, dangerous wind chills tonight
(January 7, 2014) – Extreme cold and dangerous wind chills are expected overnight. Lows temperatures will be below zero across most of the area, with wind chill values dropping to -20F to -30F.
Wind chill values this low can lead to hypothermia or death if precautions are not taken. Frostbite can affect exposed skin in as little as 15 to 30 minutes. If possible, stay indoors overnight. Bring pets indoors and check on the elderly who may be affected by the extreme cold. If you must venture outdoors, make sure to dress in several loose-fitting, lightweight clothing layers. Wear a hat and mittens and/or gloves.
