The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch in effect from January 5, 07:00 PM EST until January 6, 10:00 AM EST:

Winter Storm Watch
Storm system will drop accumulating snow Monday night

  • There is potential for significant snow accumulations and blowing and drifting snow that may impact travel.
  • Continue to monitor the latest forecasts for detailed information or possible warnings.

(January 4, 2015) – A winter storm watch has been issued for a storm system which will impact the area Monday Night. Most of the forecast area will see between 3 and 6 inches of snow with some areas possibly seeing 5 to 8 inches. Temperatures will be in the single digits through the event with light winds. Snowfall rates may exceed an inch per hour on Monday night. Heavy accumulations will be possible with visibilities greatly reduced at times.

…WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM MONDAY EVENING THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING…

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NORTHERN INDIANA HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WATCH…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM MONDAY EVENING THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING.

HAZARDOUS WEATHER…

* TIMING…SNOW IS EXPECTED TO MOVE INTO THE AREA MONDAY EVENING AND CONTINUE INTO TUESDAY MORNING.

* ACCUMULATIONS…SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 3 TO 6 INCHES ARE LIKELY WITH BETWEEN 5 AND 8 INCHES POSSIBLE. THE LOCATION WHERE THESE HEAVIER SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OCCUR REMAINS UNCERTAIN AND THEREFORE A WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED GIVEN THE POTENTIAL.

* TEMPERATURES WILL BE IN THE SINGLE DIGITS AND TEENS DURING THIS EVENT. WINDS WILL NOT BE THAT STRONG…LIKELY AROUND 10 MPH.

IMPACTS…

* SNOWFALL RATES UP TO AN INCH PER HOUR MAY OCCUR MONDAY NIGHT. HEAVY ACCUMULATIONS WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH VISIBILITY REDUCED TO ONE QUARTER MILE OR LESS AT TIMES.

* ROADS WILL BECOME SNOW COVERED…SLICK AND HAZARDOUS WHICH WILL MAKE TRAVEL DIFFICULT.

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOW…SLEET…OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL. CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.
