Critical Injury Crash

Victim: Adult Male, Critical Condition

 

Details:

On Friday, 11/28/2014, at approximately 10:22 PM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 6400 block of South Lafayette Street reference a vehicle crash with injuries. Officers arrived on scene and determined the crash involved a single vehicle. The driver was conscious and trapped inside the vehicle. The Fort Wayne Fire Department arrived and extricated the driver from the vehicle. The victim was transported by paramedics to a local hospital in critical condition.

Preliminary reports indicate the vehicle was traveling southbound on South Lafayette Street prior to the crash. Witnesses reported the vehicle never braked and left the west side of the roadway for an unknown reason. After leaving the roadway, it appears the vehicle rolled at least once and struck two utility poles and a utility box. Witnesses reported a passenger in the vehicle fled the scene on foot. The passenger is described as a male, black, approximately 30 years old. Investigators reported alcohol and drugs were contributing factors in the crash.

Southbound Lafayette Street was closed to all traffic while investigators processed the scene and collected evidence. This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
