Lutheran Children’s Hospital Receive Ride-On Cars for Patients from Fort Wayne Corvette Club
Cars will have poles attached to the back to hold medication bags from IV lines(November 13, 2014) – Fort Wayne Corvette Club members will rev things up in Lutheran Children’s Hospital at 10 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 14, with seven push cars for pediatric patients. Besides play, the ride-on cars will be used for transporting little patients from one unit to another. The cars will be equipped with poles to hold intravenous bags for fluids or medication as the child plays or moves to another part of the hospital.
“The ride-on push cars will make it fun and easier to move around as our goal for pediatric patients is to take their minds off of their illness, injury or disease,” said Tammy Else, child life specialist, Lutheran Children’s Hospital. “The Corvette Club wanted to partner with us and together we wanted to find an easier to way help families to normalize their environment. We’re thrilled to make these available for our busier patients.”
Lanny Ross, a Corvette Club member, has donated items throughout the year to be auctioned at various club functions with the caveat of helping hospitalized children. Collectively, the Corvette Club has requested that all proceeds from the auctioned items go toward supporting pediatric patients at Lutheran Children’s Hospital.
Focusing on the convenience of mobility for young children helps the families, staff and the children feel more at home despite the hospital setting.
