November 14th: Knight Cities Challenge closes
(November 6, 2014) – As of tomorrow, there will be only one week remaining until the Nov. 14 deadline for the Knight Cities Challenge, which asks people to submit ideas that answer the question: What’s your best idea to make cities more successful? This is the last chance for residents of Fort Wayne to compete for a share of $5 million to make Fort Wayne a more vibrant place to live and work.
Knight Foundation is looking to award grants at the city, neighborhood, and block level, and all sizes in between. The challenge is open to innovators of all types: architects, activists, artists, city planners, entrepreneurs, students, educators, city officials, as well as governments and organizations.
The initial application for the Knight Cities Challenge is very easy; there are only two brief questions. There are also just two rules:
1) A submission may come from anywhere, but the project must take place in or benefit one or more of the 26 Knight communities, which includes Fort Wayne.
2) The idea should focus on one or more of three key drivers of city success:
- Talent: Ideas that help cities attract and keep the best and the brightest
- Opportunity: Ideas that create economic prospects and break down divides
- Engagement: Ideas that spur connection and civic involvement
No project is too small — so long as your idea is big. To enter and for more information on the challenge, go to KnightCities.org – and be sure to submit your application by Nov. 14 at 5 p.m. ET.
