Death Investigation

Date: Monday, October 20, 2014

Time: 3:20 p.m.

Location: 3500 Lake Avenue, Catholic Cemetery

Victim: Adult Female

Details:

Fort Wayne police responded to the Catholic Cemetery located at 3500 Lake Avenue at approximately 3:20 p.m. this afternoon when ground crews discovered a female down on the undeveloped portion of the cemetery property which is immediately south of the cemetery itself.

Officers, medics and fire personnel arrived and determined the female to be deceased at the scene. During the initial call to 911 communications ground crew personnel also reported seeing a male on foot walking from the cemetery which they felt was suspicious and gave call-takers a very detailed description of the person that they observed. Officers responding to the scene observed the male described walking from the cemetery on the north side of Lake Avenue directly across from the cemetery and detained him. He will be interviewed by detectives to determine what if any involvement that he might have in this incident.

This death investigation is suspicious in nature and as a result our department will maintain control over the scene until such a time the Allen County Coroner’s office makes a ruling on a cause and manner of death through an autopsy that will take place Tuesday morning.

This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Coroner’s office and the Allen County Prosecutor’s office.
