Taste of Home Cooking School brings Taste of Fall to Fort Wayne

(September 30, 2014) — As home cooks across the country head to the kitchen to cook up some flavorful fall dishes, the Taste of Home Cooking School will share how to prepare seasonal recipes during the Fall Home Design Expo Saturday, Oct. 25 at Fort Wayne’s Memorial Coliseum, 4000 Parnell Avenue.

This is the second year the Taste of Home Cooking School has taken place at the Coliseum, but the first time it’s being offered for free with admission to the expo – just $10 for adults, and kids 12 and under are free. Cooking show admission normally ranges from $20-50 per person.

“Our entire show is all about catering to homeowners in making their home a better place to live,” said Dave Marquart, producer of the Fall Home Design Expo. “And with that comes the how-to and entertainment element that revolves around the kitchen.”

Taste of Home’s Culinary Specialist Karen Davis will share her home cooking tips and demonstrate step-by-step recipes, including a gingerbread cheesecake, at four different times – 11 a.m., 1, 3 and 5 p.m.

Demonstrations use ingredients that are easily found at the local grocery store and best of all, the dishes are submitted by home cooks from across the country.

“From experienced home chefs to beginners learning their way around the kitchen, the Taste of Home Cooking School offers something for everyone – putting a fresh spin on old favorites and adding new recipes to your seasonal repertoire,” Davis said.

The first 100 guests at each session receive a Taste of Home cookbook and gift bag including coupons and goodies from participating national food companies. Attendees can also enter-to-win one of many door prizes, including the recipes created onstage.

VIP admission features preferred seating, meet and greet, autographed cookbook and gift bag. Attendees are considered VIP when they purchase their general expo ticket in advance starting Oct. 1 through FallHomeShow.org.

General admission to the Fall Home Design Expo, which runs from Oct. 24-26, includes access to nearly 100 top-quality home improvement exhibitors relating to: kitchens, baths, carpet, doors, windows, insulation, room additions, home building, mortgages, roofing, decks, cooking, cabinets, refinishing, basements and much more.

Other food and beverage highlights include The Indiana Wine Experience from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24 featuring Indiana wineries, hors d’oeuvres, art, live music, giveaways and a silent auction benefitting the Fort Wayne Children’s Foundation.

The Fort Wayne Winter Farmers Market will also bring fresh local produce, baked goods and crafts to the expo on Sunday, Oct. 26.

A new kids area will feature face painting, balloon artists and pumpkin carving throughout the weekend. With Halloween near, the show will host a costume contest and safe trick-or-treat from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday.

Three-dollar discount coupons will be available on FallHomeShow.org, and are valid with general admission only, which does not include advance ticket sales. Re-admittance is valid all weekend.

Expo hours are noon-9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.
