American Airlines launches nonstop service from Fort Wayne to Philadelphia and Charlotte

(October 2, 2014) – Officials at the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority are pleased to welcome new American Airlines nonstop service from Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Charlotte-Douglas International Airport (CLT). Along with its partners, the City of Fort Wayne, Allen County, Greater Fort Wayne Inc., the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership, and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, the Airport Authority welcomes twice daily service to PHL and once daily service to CLT. The new service will be operated as US Airways Express with 50-seat Bombardier CRJ200 regional aircraft.

“We are very excited to gain access to two new hub destinations from Fort Wayne,” said Scott Hinderman, executive director of airports for the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority. “Travelers now have hundreds of new options for making connections around the world, ultimately leading to not only increased flexibility but also economic growth for the region.”

Philadelphia International Airport is a quick 1-hour, 30-minute flight from FWA and provides a multitude of connections domestically and internationally. Charlotte-Douglas International Airport is one of the country’s busiest hubs and provides ample connections to the southeast, the Caribbean, and several other destinations with one stop from FWA.

“As we work to fully integrate our two networks, we remain committed to expanding our domestic service to better serve our customers in small- and medium-size markets,” said Chuck Schubert, vice president of network and schedule planning for American Airlines. “By building our network presence in these regional markets, we are providing more people in more places access to our global network covering more than 330 destinations in more than 50 countries around the world.”

To celebrate the new service, the Airport Authority and Seattle’s Best Coffee will be offering one free small coffee to all passengers between the hours of 5:30 and 7:30 a.m. October 3-9. The Airport Authority will also be handing out various treats to passengers from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the week following the launch of service.

American Airlines also flies direct to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) daily from FWA. To make reservations, visit www.aa.com or https://www.aa.com/homePage.do.
