Leon Tolchinsky is ecstatic. He’s landed a terrific teaching job in an idyllic Russian Hamlet. When he arrives he finds people sweeping dust from the stoops back into their houses and people milking upside down to get more cream. The town has been cursed with chronic stupidity for 200 years and Leon’s job is to break the curse. No one tells him that if he stays over 24 hours and fails to break the curse, he too becomes stupid. But, he has fallen in love with a girl so stupid that she has only recently learned how to sit down.

The BCT production features junior Cameron Chambers in the role of the schoolmaster, Leon Tolchinsky. Senior, Hannah Hudelson plays Sophia, Leon’s target pupil. Jacob Starr (junior) and Isabella Coats (sophomore) play Dr. and Mrs. Zubritsy, Sophia’s well-meaning, but ignorant parents. Senior Cole Brandenberger takes the role of the villain, Count Gregor Yousekevitch, who will break the curse if he can convince Sophia to marry him. The villagers of Kulgenchikov are played by Christian Klinker and Andrew Rarick (seniors), Claire Cummins (junior), and Jake Smith and Isaac Paris (sophomores).

The production is under the direction of drama director Rich Luedeke, with Darren McKown serving as technical director. Elaborate sets and costumes have been created by Joel Guthrie, Jessie Smith, the BCS Art Club and Candis Allwein. The show will be performed in the North Campus gym of Blackhawk Christian Elementary school at 7400 East State Boulevard. Performances begin at 7:00 with the doors opening at 6:30. Tickets will be available at the door: $7.00 for adults, $5.00 for students.
