USF and Fort Wayne Cinema Center hosting “Weekend with Chris Buck” of “Frozen”
(September 2, 2014) — The University of Saint Francis will team with Fort Wayne Cinema Center on “A Weekend with Chris Buck” Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 4 and 5. The event will bring a free screening of “Frozen,” the highest grossing animated film and number-five movie of all time, and free presentations by its Oscar-winning co-director to the USF Robert Goldstine Performing Arts Center.
The weekend will begin with a Fort Wayne Cinema Center members-only brunch with the director on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Philmore on Broadway. Cinema Center members are invited to spend the morning in conversation with Chris Buck about the power of quality storytelling, and hear some of the inside information about the making of a world-class, record-breaking film.
The public is invited to the “Frozen” screening that evening at 7 p.m., with Buck engaging in a sing-along immediately following the film. He will deliver a lecture after the sing-along. On Sunday, Buck will speak for the university’s continuing Closer Look lecture series at 1 p.m. He will discuss his career and creative evolution and offer advice on beginning a career in creative industries to the region’s students.
Buck’s career has evolved from animating classics, including “Who Framed Rodger Rabbit?” and “Fox and the Hound,” to directing the Academy Award-winning “Frozen.” He also directed “Tarzan” and “Surf’s Up,” which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Buck studied at the California Institute of the Arts, where in his final year he produced an animated film about a female tennis player that landed him a job at Disney Animation.
“By combining forces to bring this caliber of creative talent to Fort Wayne, Cinema Center and USF will showcase their roles in guiding students to create their finest work, and being a venue whose mission is to share a storyteller’s final product,” said USF School of Creative Arts Dean, Rick Cartwright.
“It is exciting to bring a visionary director like Chris Buck to Fort Wayne so he may experience a piece of the worldwide ‘Frozen’ phenomenon with a local community of movie lovers,” said Cinema Center Executive Director, Jonah Crismore.
The USF Robert Goldstine Performing Arts Center is located at 431 W. Berry St. in Fort Wayne. Complimentary parking is available across Berry Street from the center.
Cinema Center is the only theater in northeast Indiana that has been showcasing film as an art form for 37 years.
