TinCaps Break Overall Attendance Record in 2014
Combined Regular Season and Postseason Attendance Eclipses 411,000

(September 6, 2014) – The novelty of Parkview Field apparently hasn’t worn off after five years. In year number six of the downtown ballpark, the TinCaps have set a new record for overall attendance in 2014. Saturday night’s crowd for Game 1 of the Eastern Division Championship Series raised Parkview Field’s combined regular season and postseason attendance to 411,028.

The TinCaps’ 2014 overall attendance surpasses the 410,458 fans who came to Parkview Field in 2013.
“Thank you to all the fans who helped us set this record,” TinCaps President Mike Nutter said. “This is a record for everyone in the Fort Wayne community to be proud of together.”

Parkview Field’s overall attendance record in 2014 comes on the heels of the highest-drawing regular season in franchise history. During 70 regular season TinCaps games in 2014, Fort Wayne drew 406,715 fans. Two playoff games pushed the overall record over the top.

According to https://baseballdigest.com/, the TinCaps had the 24th-highest attendance number in all of Minor League Baseball during the regular season. That’s out of 160 franchises. Parkview Field saw the third-most fans in all of Single-A, while attracting more fans than 12 of 30 Triple-A clubs and 27 of 30 Double-A teams.

“It’s rare for a ballpark to break attendance records in year number six,” Nutter said. “This is a testament to our amazing fans, as well as our hard-working employees who strive to serve our fans to the best of their abilities each and every game. We also couldn’t entertain fans like this if not for the Padres providing us with winning teams.”

The TinCaps aren’t quite ready to look ahead to establishing new records in 2015. Parkview Field hopes to host more baseball this year. Fort Wayne is two wins away from advancing to its third Midwest League Championship Series in the last six years.

If the TinCaps advance to the title round, Fort Wayne would welcome the Western Division champs on Saturday, September 13 in Game 3 of the best-of-five series. Then, if necessary, Parkview Field would also host Games 4 and 5 on the 14th and 15th, respectively.

“This is a phenomenal accomplishment,” Nutter said. “But by no means will we rest on our laurels going forward. The TinCaps and Parkview Field will continue to work to be the best in all of Minor League Baseball because that’s what Fort Wayne’s fans deserve.”
