News release from the University of Saint Francis:

USF’s Cougar Classic brings in $200,000 in three years

(August 13, 2014) – The third annual Busse-Fabini Cougar Classic, a University of Saint Francis golf outing, topped the $200,000 mark in funds raised to support student-athletes since the inception of the event in 2012. This year’s event on Aug. 1 at Bridgewater Golf Club in Auburn garnered over $75,000 for the scholarship program. Sponsors were Steel Dynamics Inc., General Petroleum and Frontier Communications.

Winning top honors for the round was the team from Shepherds’ Automotive of Kendallville, with a low score of 54. Their game earned them four rounds at Glendarin Golf Club in Angola and $100 each to Chops Steakhouse in Fort Wayne.

Retired NFL star Jason Fabini and Steel Dynamics founder Keith Busse hosted a VIP party for approximately 200 golfers at Fabini’s Fort Wayne home the evening before the outing. The VIP event included a silent auction, catering by Eddie Merlot’s and Five-Star Distributing and live entertainment by Mike Conley.

“Once again the generosity and selflessness of those who support the Busse-Fabini Cougar Classic have reached new heights,” said USF Athletic Director Mike McCaffrey. “So many thanks go to our co-hosts, Keith Busse and Jason Fabini, who really drive this event from start to finish. The efforts of those two, plus our Cougar Classic committee and the golfers themselves, have impacted a number of lives here at USF. We will continue to raise the bar for our event and try to engage as many people as possible for the benefit of our student-athletes.”
