“Choose-Your-Own-Adventure” fundraiser keeps the audience guessing
(August 14, 2014) – The Fort Wayne Dance Collective is set to host its second annual “choose-your-own-adventure” fundraiser to provide more scholarships and programming to the community.
Join Alice and her cast of characters Friday, September 12, 2014, as the Fort Wayne Dance Collective presents Wonderland, the organization’s second annual immersive theater fundraiser in the Masonic Temple located at 216 East Washington Blvd. Downtown, Fort Wayne. Doors will open at 7:30pm and the show will begin promptly at 8pm. The organization’s similar event, Star Crossed, was performed last year with rave reviews from over 200 audience members as well as the press – being hailed as the “sort of theater [that] steals your comfort zone away from you,” Keiara Carr, Journal Gazette.
Wonderland is a loose, modern interpretation of Alice in Wonderland told primarily through movement. Audience members will have the entire Masonic Temple to explore and watch how the performance unfolds throughout the building. Live local bands will accompany several of the main scenes and will include: Soft N’ Heavy, Heaven’s Gateway Drugs and Metavari. Attendees will have a chance to follow some of their favorite characters including the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit, the Caterpillar and of course Alice and the Queen of Hearts. Light appetizers and desserts will be provided as well as a cash bar.
This “choose-your-own-adventure” fundraiser serves as the Fort Wayne Dance Collective’s (FWDC) signature event and is presented to raise funds both for scholarships for students in need as well as to create and sustain current outreach programming for the community. In keeping to its mission, FWDC makes it a priority to serve people of all ages and abilities, serving those who have the least access to the arts including students from South Side High School. “This program helps me realize who I am and want to be in life. I am thankful for it,” Kendra, SSHS Student.
In FY14, FWDC served over 29,000 people throughout Northeast Indiana and has provided scholarships, work-study opportunities, community programming, classes and performances to this region for the past 36 years. FWDC serves thousands of students in schools, at sites for people with disabilities as well as through the Healing Arts Program in partnership with Parkview Health Systems. Tickets for the event are $40 in advance and $50 at the door.
