On August 30th, 2014 from noon until midnight, The Bean Cafe’ and Teahouse and Wells Corridor Association is launching the First Annual Wells Street Community Festival. With the help of many Wells Street local business owners, local musicians, and local volunteers from throughout our entire community, we will be raising awareness about the small businesses on and near Wells Street. The Wells Street Corridor is helping sponsor our festival; feeling strong about our locally ran businesses having an important role in Fort Wayne’s character, culture, and individuality. We have many local musicians donating their time as well, because our local music scene plays just as big a part in our cultural individuality. We are a community, and we want to be heard, not just Wells Street, but Fort Wayne as a whole. That Saturday afternoon we will be barricading the streets at the Well’s Corridor, and utilizing the Historic Well Street Bridge for yoga and martial arts workshops throughout the day, while a line up of 12!! different local bands will be rocking the party all day, with 15 min DJ intermissions.

Information booths will be set up from 1 pm – 6 pm. featuring a variety of local small business booths and non-profit groups including The Red Cross, doing CPR workshops, Save The Maumee Grassroots Organization, educating us on how important preserving our rivers is, and Neighborhood Health Clinic, who will perform free blood pressure exams. The Fort Wayne Fire Department will be visiting us at 2 pm to spray down the Kids!! There will be an ample amount of children’s activities including face painting and hula hooping. Fort Wayne Outfitters will have canoe and paddle-board rides available! The Bean and other local vendors will be catering food and BBQ, serving drinks throughout the day, as well as a bar area available for adults. We have had many gifts donated by a lot of local businesses, and are going to be raffling off some pretty cool local business gift baskets throughout the day (make sure to check out our sponsor page!). Other activities include Chair massage, Juggling acts, Craft and Jewelry Vendors and other fun displays. Just when you think the fun can’t get any better, Pyroscope Entertainment will kick off the evening with dazzling displays of fire-spinning and light shows to liven up the greenery facing Wells Street. Then after the party, feel free to join us at the After-party in Cloud 9 Hookah Lounge, right next door.

We want to make Wells Street a fun place to live and visit. The Riverfront Development Project is going to bring a lot of attention to this area, and we need your help to protect it and help it thrive. Your kind donations are helping provide support preserving the integrity of the Wells Street area, and helping us keep it safe and in the hands of local interests. The funds will help encourage growth and development of local business on Wells Street and other local areas. This year in particular, we are striving to save a business that has been an icon in our community since 1945, and transform it into an even more fantastic, family friendly restaurant. Family oriented restaurants are certainly desired in this area. We thank you and all of our wonderful sponsors for your generosity and hope that you continue to be a part of our Community Cooperative!!
