Game recap from the TinCaps:

Homers Hurt TinCaps

The TinCaps brought the tying run to the on-deck circle in the bottom of the ninth inning, but came up short against the Lake County Captains, 10-5, at Parkview Field in front of 7,757 fans. It was Fort Wayne’s 23rd sell-out crowd of the season — the second most in franchise history with 10 home games left.

Lake County (27-26, 54-69) leads the Midwest League in home runs this season and put its power on display early in this one. Sicnarf Loopstok opened the scoring with a solo homer off Jeffery Enloe (4-5) in the top of the second inning. Brian Ruiz made it back-to-back homers with a blast to the XFINITY Home Run Porch to make it 2-0.

The Captains went in front 6-0 on a three-run homer by Mike Papi in the third off Enloe, who hadn’t allowed a home run before Saturday. That was over 47 1/3 innings pitched.

Fort Wayne (24-30, 54-69) found itself behind 8-0 before it even had a runner reach base against Luis Lugo (7-9), who won at Parkview Field for the second time in the last six days. Ronnie Richardson didn’t exactly reach base to stop that. Instead, he went around all the bases with a solo homer to the XFINITY Home Run Porch to pull the TinCaps with seven at 8-1.

The Summit City squad found itself down 10-1 in the sixth when Richardson hit a sacrifice fly to make it 10-2. Fort Wayne scored thrice in the eighth. Fernando Perez hit a two run single to drive in his 78th and 79th runs of the season — second most in the Midwest League. Jake Bauers added a sacrifice fly.

The TinCaps loaded the bases in the ninth with two outs against Alexis Paredes — who allowed the three runs in the eighth and was on the mound eight days ago when Fort Wayne rallied from eight runs down to beat Lake County — but Trevor Frank came in to strike out Perez for his 14th save.

These two play the rubber match of a three-game series on Sunday at 3:05 p.m. Ronald Herrera is set to start for Fort Wayne against Mitch Brown. The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380, TinCaps.com, and the TuneIn Radio app. It can also be seen on XFINITY Channel 81 throughout Indiana.
