Allen County SPCA Sets another Adoption Record
(August 1, 2014) – This July the Allen County SPCA found homes for 245 cats and dogs, resulting in another record month for the nonprofit animal shelter. Previously, the highest number of monthly adoptions was 206, set in May of this year.
“We’re elated about this adoption success,” said Jessica Henry, shelter director. “May’s adoption numbers were high because we hosted two major events that month, the Northern Indiana Pet Expo and a PetSmart Charities Adoption Tent Event. But to achieve this adoption success during a routine month really indicates that our community is supporting animal adoption like never before.”
Henry believes many factors contributed to this success, including a more streamlined adoption process, reduced adoption fees for felines, and an increase in community awareness. One year ago, the July adoption count was 118, which was the first time the shelter had ever surpassed 100 adoptions.
“The statistics are important, but what’s most meaningful is that 245 once-homeless animals have now found forever families. Plus, all of these animals have been spayed or neutered to help reduce pet overpopulation in our community,” Henry stated.
The mission of the Allen County SPCA is to promote the prevention of cruelty to animals by providing a safe haven for animals, an effective and comprehensive adoption program, education and outreach programs for the community and deep and broad membership and volunteer programs.
