Lloyd Commands TinCaps to 4-0 Win

Midland, MI (July 30, 2014) – On Wednesday night at Dow Diamond, a Bark in the Park game where fans were invited to bring their canine friends, Kyle Lloyd was the trainer and the Great Lakes Loons were the dog. Lloyd commanded his opponents to lay down and play dead , and they obliged in a 4-0 Fort Wayne victory in which the right-hander allowed two hits and struck out eight over six innings.

Fort Wayne (17-21, 47-60) got all the offense it would need on the game’s second pitch. Trea Turner hit his first TinCaps home run, and the second of his pro career, over the wall in left field. Great Lakes (17-21, 51-57) starter Brandon Martinez (1-7) struck out five and allowed only one run over the first four innings, and appeared to have the game in check battling with Lloyd (5-4).

By the end of the fourth, the TinCaps right-hander had fanned seven and retired eight straight, retiring the side in order in the third and fourth innings. Over his last four outings, Lloyd has combined for 23 innings, 15 hits, five runs, four earned runs, 36 strikeouts, and six walks.

Jake Bauers added to Fort Wayne’s advantage with a bloop, two-out RBI single in the sixth, and Nick Schulz added another run in the seventh on an RBI single. Turner capped the scoring with his second RBI of the night on a two-out single to score Josh VanMeter in the ninth.

A TinCaps bullpen duo of Jorge Guzman and Ryan Butler combined to work the night’s final three innings, with only one runner reaching base. On the night, the Loons only had one runner reach third base.

With a third straight win, Fort Wayne earned its first series victory of the year against Great Lakes.

The finale of the three-game series is scheduled for Thursday night at 7:05 p.m., with Jeffery Enloe of Fort Wayne set to square off with Scott Barlow of Great Lakes. The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380, TinCaps.com, and via the TuneIn radio app.
