Lloyd Leads TinCaps to Win, Series Victory

(July 25, 2014) – Kyle Lloyd now has two wins in his last three starts, and the reasons are immediately clear—he’s striking out batters at a pace better than any TinCaps pitcher has this season, and keeping baserunners to a minimum. With a seven-strikeout, four-hit performance Friday at Parkview Field, Lloyd guided Fort Wayne to a 6-2 win over the Beloit Snappers.

Lloyd (4-4) stayed on the hill for 5 2/3 innings and walked only one batter in his 20th appearance with Fort Wayne (13-20, 43-59). His efficiency, on display all night, was highlighted by a 1-2-3- second inning in which he threw just four pitches.

Beloit (11-22, 41-62) starter Hunter Adkins (1-4) lacked that same control, as the TinCaps scored single runs in each of the first three innings against him. Trea Turner drew a four-pitch walk to begin the bottom of the first and scored two batters later on a Fernando Perez RBI double. Henry Charles plated Ryan Miller in the second on a groundout to make it 2-0, ad Perez hit a solo home run, his second in as many nights, to give the TinCaps a 3-0 edge.

Perez, who now is tied for the team lead with nine home runs, finished a triple shy of the cycle. He capped off a four-RBI night with a two-run single in the sixth, and Jake Bauers had an RBI single in the eighth for the sixth run.

TinCaps reliever Josh Richardson allowed two runs in the ninth, which wiped away the shutout, and was replaced by Eric Yardley, who secured the final two outs of the game.

Parkview Field will play host to three more games in July, as the TinCaps welcome the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to Parkview Field Thursday night for the first time since the 2012 Midwest League Championship series. The scheduled starters are Jeffery Enloe for the TinCaps and Barret Astin for the Timber Rattlers. The game can be seen on XFINITY 81 and heard on ESPN Radio 1380 and TinCaps.com.
