Game recap from the TinCaps:

Silver Hawks down TinCaps, even series

South Bend, IN (June 28, 2014) – There’s something about Four Winds Field for Payton Baskette, and it hasn’t been something good. Baskette surrendered seven earned runs over four innings as the South Bend Silver Hawks sprinted out to an early lead and won, 9-5, against the Fort Wayne TinCaps Saturday night.

Baskette (3-4) faced eight batters in the first inning, allowing four runs, and went up against seven in the second, and gave up three runs. South Bend (4-5, 44-34) has now seen Baskette twice this year and scored 13 runs on 20 hits.

Down, 7-0, Fort Wayne (5-4, 35-43) scored its first runs against Silver Hawks starter Hector Hernandez (5-3) on a two-run double by Josh VanMeter in the top of the fifth inning. In the seventh, the last frame for Hernandez, VanMeter scored on a wild pitch and Jake Bauers plated Ronnie Richardson with a single. Dustin Peterson drove in his 60th run of the year with a ninth-inning sacrifice fly, tying South Bend’s Daniel Palka for the Midwest League RBI lead.

New TinCaps reliever Jason Jester, who flew into South Bend from Peoria, Arizona, earlier in the day, made his debut with one scoreless inning. Genison Reyes worked two innings, giving up one run, and Josh Richardson pitched the eighth, surrendering one run.

Game three of the four-game series is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. The scheduled starters are Walker Weickel for Fort Wayne and Blayne Weller for South Bend. The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380 and TinCaps.com.
