News release from the TinCaps:

Hot Rods Stymie TinCaps, 7-1

Bowling Green, KY (June 8, 2014) – Despite four perfect innings from Payton Baskette, the Bowling Green Hot Rods offense could not be contained Sunday afternoon. The Hot Rods avenged a Saturday defeat with a 7-1 win over the Fort Wayne TinCaps Sunday afternoon at Bowling Green Ballpark.

Baskette (1-3), working with determination, set aside the first 12 batters he faced to start the game. The fifth inning began with a ground ball hit by Hot Rods catcher Armando Araiza to third baseman Dustin Peterson, who threw the ball high to first baseman Jake Bauers, leaving Araiza safe and netting Peterson his 21st error of the year. That opened the door for Bowling Green (29-33) to have a four-run inning, as four of the next five batters collected base hits. Baskette allowed one more run before departing with one out in the sixth.

Fort Wayne (28-34) took an early lead in the fourth, also capitalizing on a defensive miscue. With Mallex Smith on base, Peterson hit a ground ball to short, which got under the glove of Juniel Querecuto. Smith tried to advance to third, but was thrown out. Peterson raced to second on the back end of the play, and later scored on a Jake Bauers RBI single. That run was the only one allowed by Hot Rods starter Ryne Stanek (3-2), who surrendered five hits, walked three, and struck out five.

Bauers, with a two-hit day, extended his hitting streak to 14 games. It is the longest streak by a member of the TinCaps this season, and the longest active streak in the Midwest League. During this span, he has hit 23-52 (.442) with four home runs and 13 runs batted in.

The finale of the three-game series is scheduled for Monday at 8:05 PM ET. The scheduled starters are Walker Weickel for the TinCaps and Jaime Schultz for the Hot Rods. The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380 and TheFanIndiana.com.
