May 29th: TinCaps announce roster moves

(May 29, 2014) – The Fort Wayne TinCaps, in conjunction with the San Diego Padres, announced the following roster moves today:

RHP Ronald Herrera assigned to Fort Wayne. Herrera, 19, was announced yesterday at the Player to Be Named Later in the May 15 trade between San Diego and Oakland, which sent Kyle Blanks to the A’s in exchange for Minor League outfielder Jake Goebbert. Herrera will wear #11.

“We targeted him as a guy we saw in the Arizona rookie league and in the Midwest League,” Padres assistant general manager A.J. Hinch told Corey Brock of MLB.com. “He’s a good athlete with a good arm and has a good feel for what he’s doing. We like the arm and his ability to command the fastball.”

Herrera was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by Oakland on December 11, 2011. This season, pitching with the Beloit Snappers of the Midwest League, he was 3-4 with a 3.38 ERA in nine starts. In 50 2/3 innings, he struck out 35 and walked 10.

Herrera’s career stats can be found here.
