Continuing Studies hosts Celebration of Learning as part of the 50th Celebration
(May 24, 2014) — The Division of Continuing Studies (DCS) at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) is hosting a Celebration of Learning event on Wednesday, May 28, as part of the 2014 festivities commemorating IPFW’s 50 years as a public university. The event will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Classic Ballroom of the Walb Student Union.
The Celebration of Learning event will highlight the accomplishments of the division and its contributions to the university over the past 40 years and recognize the various constituents who have helped make IPFW and DCS what they are today. DCS Executive Director Deb Conklin and other speakers will make presentations starting at 6 p.m. A representative of the City of Fort Wayne will present a Mayoral Proclamation to commemorate the event.
Also featured will be entertainment by Classic Voice, a professional vocal group led by IPFW General Studies graduate Doug Hartle. Refreshments will include hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Each guest will receive a commemorative gift.
The event is by invitation only.
“We look forward to celebrating the IPFW Division of Continuing Studies’ 40 years of service along with the university’s 50th anniversary and to recognizing the individuals who have been integral partners in contributing to the success of the Division over the years,” Conklin said.
The Celebration of Learning event will also introduce the Color Wheel, the DCS-sponsored bike rack that was designed and constructed by Delineation Architecture, Planning + Interior Design, a Women’s Business Enterprise located in Fort Wayne. Color Wheel is just one of the 50 Sculpture with Purposeâ„¢ sculptural bike racks installed as part of IPFW’s flagship 50th anniversary public art project. The various sculptures will engage the entire community, as they are being installed in downtown Fort Wayne, on the IPFW campus, and in other locations around the city.
Sculpture with Purposeâ„¢ was presented to the city during the Kickstart festival in downtown Fort Wayne. Other related festivities planned for this summer include a contest to find the IPFW triangle on each sculpture, a 50-bike salute to IPFW in July’s Three Rivers Festival Parade, and a community cycling and walking event planned for August to view the various sculptures.
Since 1964, IPFW has been providing higher educational resources to members of the Fort Wayne community and enhancing Northeast Indiana’s quality of life through its many intellectual, cultural, economic, and creative offerings. For the past 40 years, the Division of Continuing Studies has contributed to these offerings by providing high-quality, lifelong learning opportunities to people and businesses located in northeastern Indiana, southern Michigan and northwestern Ohio.
“The Division is proud to be playing our part in contributing to the success of the university and in celebrating IPFW’s achievements as the region’s premier, nationally-recognized state university,” Conklin said.
