Sculpture with Purposeâ„¢ Presentation and Photo Contest Announced at Kickstart
(May 18, 2014) – Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) launched its 50th Celebration at Kickstart today with the presentation of the 50 Sculpture with Purposeâ„¢ sculptural bike racks to the city of Fort Wayne and to Arts United. At the same time, the “Find the Triangle” community photography contest was also announced.
“This makes a great start to our 50th Celebration,” said Vicky Carwein, chancellor of IPFW. “IPFW has been an integral part of Fort Wayne for 50 years. It’s time to celebrate the past, enjoy the present, and look ahead to the future we’ll create together.”
“Ten years ago, in celebration of the 40th anniversary, IPFW introduced the city’s first-ever public art project, Mastodons on Parade,” said Irene Walters, executive director of university relations. “Through Sculpture with Purpose, we wanted to build on that project and take it up a level to create something more lasting.”
To encourage members of the public to visit all of the Sculpture with Purpose sculptures, IPFW and Parkview Health also announced the “Find the Triangle” contest. A total of $5,000 in prizes — $100 per sculpture — will be awarded. For complete rules and entry details, visit ipfw.edu/triangle-contest. The contest runs through July 6, 2014.
Sculpture with Purpose is the flagship project of IPFW’s 50th Celebration. The project placed 50 sculptural bike racks throughout Fort Wayne. These sculptures engage the entire community with installations downtown, on campus, and elsewhere in the city.
