Founded in 2007, Gallim (Hebrew for wave, pronounced gah-leem) Dance is a contemporary dance company dedicated to creating and performing original work by Andrea Miller, nurturing the careers of young artists, and stimulating the imagination of a diverse, international audience. Miller’s work embodies fearless physicality, grounded by deep humanity and expressed through the madness and joy of the imagination. Dance Magazine described Miller as “the queen of quirk,” and her works performed by dancers “of the highest caliber” (Dance Europe).
In 2012, the company was honored for ‘movement innovation’ at a TEDx Conference. The company performs for over 15,000 audience members annually in premier venues that include New York City Center, the Joyce Theater, Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival, Spoleto Festival, White Bird, the TANZ Bremen Festival in Germany, Madrid en Danza in Spain and soon the Arts United Center in Fort Wayne!
Sit, Kneel, Stand is inspired by the myth of Sisyphus and set to an original music composition by Jerome Begin and Christopher Lancaster, Sit Kneel,Stand explores the mix of absurdity and joy in the restless efforts of our shared human experience. Watch Gallim discuss the making of Sit, Kneel, Stand.
“Sit, Kneel, Stand is sophisticated and touching; you think along with it as well as laugh along with it. And it ends on a beautiful high.” – Huffington Post
Pupil Suite is an exhilarating selection of wildly quirky excerpts from Miller’s crowd-pleasing work I Can See Myself in Your Pupil. Performed to the contagious music of Isreali band Balkan Beat Box, the dance is a joyous romp that plays with the madness of imagination and the ecstasy of movement. Watch a preview here.
“It seizes your attention and dares you not to get caught up in its delicious strangeness, fierce aggression and raw beauty.”- New York Press
