Today’s updated winter weather story from the National Weather Service:

Winter storm to impact the area this weekend

(February 28, 2014; 5:14 pm) – A strong storm system currently located off the coast of California will move across the country and into the region this weekend. While flurries or light snow is possible tonight, mainly near Lake Michigan, the main show will come Saturday night into early Monday morning. Snow will overspread the area Saturday evening and may be heavy at times overnight into Sunday.

At this time, the heaviest snow is expected along and south of U.S. 24 corridor. Therefore a winter storm watch has been issued for southern portions of the area from 10 PM EST Saturday through 7 AM EST Monday. Total snowfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches are possible Saturday night through Monday morning for areas roughly north of the U.S. 24 corridor, with snowfall amounts of 6 to 10 inches possible along and south of the U.S. 24 corridor.
