News release from the City of Fort Wayne:

Two Award Winning Utility Projects Get National Write-up
Improvements to Water and Sewer Operation in the Spotlight

(December 20, 2013) – The 2014 Water and Waste Digest Reference Guide features two separate articles on recent improvements by Fort Wayne City Utilities this year. The articles describe the projects awarded as Water & Wastewater, “Top Projects” for 2013.

Only ten projects were given the award and Fort Wayne’s ultraviolet (UV) drinking water disinfection plus a wet weather project that increased capacity of a main sewage pump station at the sewage treatment plant, were two of the ten projects.

The magazine recognized the UV disinfection system as a 2013 Top Project for constructing the system while at the same time managing the challenges of keeping the system operational and continuing to supply the nearly 300,000 residents that receive drinking water from the plant each day. Similar challenges were recognized for the 2013 Top Project award that went to our wet weather pump station enhancement and screenings project. This project, near the storage ponds at our Water Pollution Control facility, increased the pump station capacity from 360 to 530 million gallons per day and significantly improved efforts to manage wet-weather flows and potential flooding. https://www.wwdmag.com/fort-wayne-ind-wet-weather-pump-station-screenings-project

The two awards were presented at the recent conference of the Water Environment Foundation. https://www.wwdmag.com/2013-top-project-winners-announced
