News release from the City of Fort Wayne:

Television program highlights City’s commitment to public safety

(NOvember 27, 2013) – Mayor Tom Henry’s office has produced a television program highlighting the City’s commitment to being a safe and thriving community that invests in citizens, neighborhoods, and businesses.

“A Commitment to Public Safety” features interviews with Mayor Henry and Police Chief Rusty York. Mayor Henry and Chief York discuss a wide range of topics on how the City works proactively to make Fort Wayne as safe as possible. The program also includes an interview with Steve Haffner, deputy chief southwest division, about the importance of neighborhood involvement and communication with police officers.

Examples of City’s commitment to public safety:

  • Local funds were approved earlier this year to have police and fire academy classes, which will begin in 2014 and result in additional police officers and firefighters to protect the community.
  • The City has received a federal COPS grant to hire additional officers beginning in 2015.
  • Collaborations with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Indiana State Police, the Allen County Sheriff’s Department, and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office in efforts to reduce violence and solve crimes.
  • Partnerships and open communication with citizens, neighborhood associations, and businesses.

“A Commitment to Public Safety” can be seen on City TV, Comcast Channel 58 and Frontier Channel 28 at the following times:
