News release from the American Red Cross:

Lincoln Financial Foundation Contributes to American Red Cross Relief in Oklahoma

(September 5, 2013) – In response to the unimaginable devastation left behind by severe weather in Oklahoma, a local organization has come together to contribute to American Red Cross Disaster Relief in the area. Lincoln Financial Foundation approved a donation of over $40, 000 to Disaster Relief, including a $25, 000 disaster relief grant and $15,000+ in matching employee gifts. Employees of Lincoln Financial Group also contributed over $1,000 to the relief efforts in Oklahoma by the American Red Cross.

“Disaster impacts people in different ways, but regardless the American Red Cross provides relief to victims across the United States— anytime, anywhere. The American Red Cross of Northeast Indiana not only sends trained volunteers to disaster-affected areas, but we also can send our support through donations from our own community. Your dedication and support for communities who are most in need enables those affected by disasters to begin the process of recovery and rebuilding,” states Katherine MacAulay, Executive Director of the American Red Cross of Northeast Indiana.

During the event of a major disaster, the American Red Cross can fulfill the need for potential mass care sheltering and feeding anywhere in the United States. Volunteers from across the country are ready to respond when disaster strikes, by operating shelters that are opened when numerous community members are displaced from their homes. American Red Cross volunteers also act as Emergency Response Vehicle drivers, who hand out hot meals, water and snacks after a disaster such as the Oklahoma Tornado. These vehicles also distribute clean-up supplies and comfort kits to those in need— all which are made possible through donations from the public.
