Ivy Tech Community College transfer students save more than $32.6 million in tuition costs
(August 12, 2013) INDIANAPOLIS – Ivy Tech Community College students who transferred their Ivy Tech credits to each of the state’s public institutions during the 2011-12 school year saved more than $32.6 million in tuition costs.
Nearly 11,000 Ivy Tech students transferred 225,037 credit hours last year – a savings that equates to $32.6 million. The savings calculations are determined by taking the total credit hour cost at the transfer institutions minus the Ivy Tech per credit hour rate.
In the previous 2010-11 school year, Ivy Tech students who transferred credits to the state’s public institutions saved $32.4 million, with two year total savings equating to more than $65 million.
In addition, Ivy Tech estimates that for every 1,000 students that complete an associate degree before transferring the state of Indiana and taxpayers save nearly $14 million.
Of those Ivy Tech students transferring credit, 31 percent transferred completed associate degrees or certificates, while 69 percent transferred individual classes.
IUPUI is the largest recipient of Ivy Tech transfer students with 2,080 students transferring 63,257 credit hours, which also equates to the largest amount of savings totaling $10.3 million. Indiana University’s Bloomington campus received 2,003 Ivy Tech transfer students, while Purdue University’s West Lafayette campus received 1,687 students.
