News release from the TinCaps:

TinCaps Swept By Hot Rods

Joe Ross threw six scoreless innings for the TinCaps but with no run support, Fort Wayne lost, 4-0, to the Bowling Green Hot Rods, who completed a three-game sweep at Parkview Field Friday night.

Ross retired the Hot Rods in order in four of his six innings. Using 85 pitches — 55 of which were strikes — the right-hander scattered three hits and two walks, and struck out three.

Entering Friday, the TinCaps were averaging 3.9 runs per game with Ross starting. Bryan Rodriguez is the only Fort Wayne starter who’s received less run support this year (3.4 runs per game). On Friday, though, the TinCaps couldn’t manage any runs at all to help Ross’ cause. Fort Wayne (19-34, 62-60) managed four hits all game, and none between the third and seventh innings. The TinCaps’ best chance to score came in the bottom of the first inning when Reynaldo Bruguera and Hunter Renfroe hit back-to-back singles with one out. Otherwise, Fort Wayne never put a runner in scoring position.

Bowling Green (32-22, 70-52) left-hander Jordan Harrison (4-2) shut down Fort Wayne for 6 1/3 innings. He fanned five, while allowing only three hits and one walk. Meanwhile, the Hot Rods broke the 0-0 tie in the top of the seventh against TinCaps reliever Trevor Gott (1-2). Marty Gantt doubled to drive home Leonardo Reginatto from first base. Bowling Green then added three insurance runs in the top of the ninth off Chris Nunn. Justin O’Conner homered to make it 2-0. Later, Gantt doubled home Reginatto again and Andrew Toles plated Gantt on a sacrifice fly.

The TinCaps begin a four-game road series against the Great Lakes Loons on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Walker Weickel (3-6, 5.74) starts for Fort Wayne against Great Lakes’ left-hander Julio Urias. The game can be heard on The Fan 1380 and TheFanFortWayne.com.
