Fatal Accident Investigation

Date/Time of Incident: 07-27-2013 12:26 AM

Location of Incident: Coombs & Herbert

Victim: Male Adult Deceased

The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the intersection of Coombs and Herbert in reference to a personal injury accident. As officers arrived on the scene, they spoke with witnesses who advised that a vehicle was traveling northbound on Coombs street as the vehicle lost control while on the bridge as it crashed into the bridge and came to final rest in the river. Members with Fort Wayne Fire Departments Dive Team located a male adult in the river unresponsive. The male was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The name of the deceased victim will be released by the Allen County Coroners Office, as well as the exact cause and manner of death. Investigators believe that there was possibly only one person inside the vehicle when it crashed and went into the river, but it is unclear if anyone else may have been inside the vehicle.

This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department F.A.C.T team, and the Allen County Coroners Office.
