Allen County Right to Life Trains 100 Pro-Life Students at Annual Camp

(July 27, 2013) – Allen County Right to Life hosts 100 students at its ninth annual Friends for Life Boot Camp. The Friends for Life Boot Camp offers apologetics training for high school and college students to defend their pro-life views. The camp started Friday, July 26 and continues Saturday, July 27 at the University of St. Francis, Fort Wayne.

Friends for Life Boot Camp offers three levels of pro-life training so that both new and returning students can be challenged in their learning. This year’s camp also offered a pro-life support raising training option to students seeking full time pro-life work in the movement after graduation. Training sessions are led by Scott Klusendorf, President of Life Training Institute; Mike Spencer, Midwest Training Director for Life Training Institute; and Seth Drayer, Director of Training for Created Equal.

“We’re thrilled to host Friends for Life Boot Camp in Fort Wayne for the ninth consecutive year,” said Cathie Humbarger, Executive Director of Allen County Right to Life. “This generation of young people will be the generation to end abortion, so we take the responsibility of providing quality training seriously. We’re pleased to partner with our trainers and thankful to countless volunteers and supporters for making Friends for Life Boot Camp possible.”

“I started attending Friends for Life Boot Camp as a student and I’m pleased to be back as Camp Director for the third consecutive year,” stated Nate Elkington, Friends for Life Boot Camp Director. “The 100 attendees are passionate about standing up for the preborn and we’re proud of the training they receive at camp to help them articulate their beliefs.”

“Friends for Life Boot Camp helped me learn how to make the case for life and I’m excited to be back for my third year at camp,” said Summer Spencer, senior at Columbus State Community College in Ohio. “Friends for Life equips students to go out and defend life, whether working full time in pro-life work or in day-to-day conversations. I appreciate how Friends for Life helps me take my knowledge and passion for life to the next level so I can form a loving debate with someone who is pro-choice.”

The camp started with a kick-off rally on Friday, July 26 with Peter Heck, host of The 414 Project on radio station WFRN. The camp continues on Saturday, July 27 with training sessions and presentations throughout the day.

The Friends for Life Boot Camp is largely funded through the support of The Mary Cross Tippmann Foundation. Participants traveled from as far as Minnesota, Kansas and Virginia.
