News release from the TinCaps:

Ross, Gott, and Nunn Team for 1-0 Shutout Win

(July 14, 2013) Beloit, WI – Joe Ross threw six shutout innings, while Trevor Gott and Chris Nunn pitched a scoreless final three, to lead the TinCaps to a 1-0 victory over the Beloit Snappers Sunday afternoon at Pohlman Field. Luis Domoromo drove in the game’s only run in the top of the fifth with an opposite-field double to score Corey Adamson.

Ross (4-4) allowed only three hits and two walks on 86 pitches, as he blanked Beloit (16-7, 59-34) for his first victory since April 25. The righty Ross was backed by Gott, who yielded just one hit in two innings — his longest appearance as a professional since he was selected in the sixth round out of the University of Kentucky in June. Nunn pitched a perfect ninth with two strikeouts to earn his sixth save this season.

Fort Wayne (8-15, 51-41) scored with one out in the fifth against right-hander Dylan Covey (0-1). Corey Adamson drew a walk and then came around on Domoromo’s 13th RBI and second double of the season. Otherwise, Covey, who was pitching in his first Midwest League game after Oakland selected him in the fourth round this year, contained the TinCaps to three hits and two walks. Beloit reliever Derek DeYoung twirled three scoreless frames.

The Snappers best opportunity to score was in the second inning when Ross walked Matt Olson and John Wooten doubled with one out. But with runners at second and third base, the 20-year old from Oakland, Cal., induced a groundout back to the mound against Sam Roberts and struck out Nick Rickles to end the threat.

The TinCaps’ win came in a tidy 2 hours, 9 minutes. It was Fort Wayne’s seventh shutout victory of the season and first in 14 games since a 5-0 win at Lake County on June 29. With Max Fried pitching in that game, it was also the last time a TinCaps starter received a victory. Fort Wayne’s last 1-0 win came on June 8 at Parkview Field over Dayton in 12 innings. Ross was the starter in that one, too.

Fort Wayne and Beloit put a bow on their only series of the season Monday afternoon with a 1:00 EST first pitch. Walker Weickel (2-4, 4.67) is set to start for the TinCaps against Dakota Bacus (8-3, 3.95). The game can be heard on The Fan 1380 and TheFanFortWayne.com.
